In Microsoft Windows XP there is a feature called Shared Documents. It allows all the users from the network to access. So anyone can store or delete files from anyone’s computer on the network within this folder. For some reasons (like virus attacks, etc..) you may want to Disable this feature.
To disable the ‘Shared Documents‘ folder that shows up on the network, you will need to dip into the registry. Click ‘Start > Run ‘, type ‘Regedit‘ and press ‘Enter‘. Now the registry editor will appears on the screen. In the left pane of the Registry editor go to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Policies > Explorer‘ Here, create a new DWORD Value by right clicking in the Right Pane and select ‘New > DWORD Value‘. Name it ‘NoSharedDocuments‘. Assign a value of ‘1‘ to this key. Log off or reboot and you will see that the Shared Documents folder has disappeared !
